The catastrophes of hunger can have many causes. Civil wars, poor harvest, drought periods, floods, terror and expulsion of people are some reasons for famine, whereby people in the victimized regions have no nutrition and they suffer from hunger. The supplies of goods are destroyed and plundered by military men, etc.
But also, when enough food is available, children are especially affected by malnutrition and hunger diseases through poverty in which they grow up or through ignorance of the parents who give them inappropriate food.

Beide Kinder sind gleich alt

Almost 1/3 of all child mortality is caused by malnutrition. Malnutrition is an important risk factor. In the developing countries the majority of the children is poorly fed up to the age when they become mature. On the basis of our research in the Kigoma region, we have discovered that in the region of Kigoma only 40% of the children under 5 years have the weight that complies their age. 60% of the children have malnutrition.
